IDEA AND INSPIRATION

The designed single-family house is envisioned as a home where thoughtful architecture, spaciousness, and the tranquility of the surrounding nature come together. The design is based on the client’s spatial needs while also placing strong emphasis on aesthetics and harmonious integration with the surrounding environment. The result is a residence with a clear and elegant architectural language that blends naturally into the coastal landscape of the Männi property.

The floor plan of the house is an angled H-shape, whose simple and balanced structure divides the building into two interconnected wings. One wing contains the main living spaces that form the center of everyday life – a spacious living room, kitchen, and leisure area where family members and guests can gather and spend time together. This wing also includes a home office providing a quiet place for work, as well as an entrance hall, storage room, pantry, WC, and a small garage suitable for storing smaller vehicles or for workshop and hobby activities.

The second building wing is designed as a quieter and more private living area. This section includes the bedrooms, a walk-in wardrobe, two bathrooms, a utility room, and a technical room – everything necessary to ensure comfortable and smooth everyday living.

The two wings are connected by a central atrium that houses the dining room – the heart of the home. This space ties the entire building together and provides a bright and open setting for shared meals and family moments.

The architecture of the building emphasizes light and transparency. Large glass surfaces open views toward the surrounding nature and bring the juniper-covered areas of the property and the coastal landscape directly into the living spaces. The movement of the sun has been carefully considered in the design – morning sunlight welcomes the residents at the start of the day, while the evening sunset creates a warm and peaceful atmosphere as the day comes to an end.

The plot itself carries the natural character typical of a coastal landscape. Although the area consists of somewhat uneven terrain typical of an old shoreline, the building area is relatively even, and across the large property the variations in ground level are not visually prominent. The house is positioned on the seaward side of the property, occupying approximately one third of the southern part of the plot. The location of the building has been chosen so that it remains outside protected zones and is situated at least three meters above sea level.

A valuable feature of the property is its existing tall greenery – mature trees and shrubs that create a well-established and nature-oriented atmosphere. During the design process, efforts have been made to preserve as much of the existing vegetation as possible. Trees will only be removed where they fall directly beneath the building or the planned access road and would obstruct construction. All trees that can be preserved will remain, and if necessary, several carefully selected low landscaping elements will be added to complement the existing natural environment.

The overall concept has been developed with the intention that the new house would not be merely a building, but a natural part of the landscape – a bright and peaceful home where architecture and nature form one harmonious whole.
